Professor Dato’ Dr Ir Faisal Rafiq Mahamd Adikan is currently the Vice President (Research and Development) in Monash University Malaysia as of July 2024.
Professor Rafiq, who served as Universiti Sains Malaysia’s eighth Vice-Chancellor from 2019 to 2022, also was USM’s Director of Advanced Medical and Dental Institute and Senate representative to its Board of Governors. Prior to leading USM, Professor Rafiq was with Universiti Malaya for 22 years.
Professor Rafiq earned his PhD in integrated optical devices from the University of Southampton in 2007. His work on flat fibres garnered international recognition and led to an international patent and the establishment of one of the first research-purpose Flat Fibre Laboratories in Southeast Asia. In 2017, he received the Malaysia Toray Science Foundation's Science and Technology Award for his contributions to photonics. Professor Rafiq is also the co-founder of Flexilicate Sdn Bhd, an award-winning startup that provides optical fibre solutions to clients like NASA, Johns Hopkins University, Fujikura Limited and TDK Electronics.
As USM's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Rafiq led the university into the best financial position among Malaysia's 20 public universities, rebounding from a deficit budget, to over RM80 million in surplus. Under his leadership, research at USM thrived; USM was ranked 4th in the world by the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings in 2022, rose to rank first in the number of SCOPUS research publications produced annually by Malaysian institutions, and secured over RM400 million in funding under the 12th Malaysia Plan. USM also ranked first in MyRA1 in 2022 and achieved its highest-ever points in MyRA2 in 2023, marking one of the university's most impressive turnarounds to date.
Prior to assuming the role of Vice-Chancellor at USM, Professor Rafiq was a leading academic at Universiti Malaya and held various leadership positions including as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development) from 2013 to 2019 and Acting Dean and Deputy Dean of Research of the Faculty of Engineering from 2012 to 2013. Under his leadership, the Faculty of Engineering became the largest recipient of UM’s High Impact Research at RM220 million, the best in publication per academic staff as well as the largest contributor to IP filing for the University.
As DVC, Professor Rafiq revitalised UM’s Varsity Lake, introduced teaching facilities called the CUBE, explored concession models in bringing development to the University, and secured UM as one of the best urban universities in the UI Green Index rankings.
In recognition of his contributions to the state, Professor Rafiq was conferred Penang’s Darjah Yang Mulia Pangkuan Negeri in 2021.
Siva is trained as a Mechanical and Systems Engineer and has worked for over a decade with numerous Multinational Companies. His last position before leaving the industry was as Head of Department for Process and Equipment.
Finding his passion in training, coaching and personal development, Siva completed his certification as a Law of Attraction Facilitator with Michael Losier, globally successful trainer and author of the international bestselling book “Law of Attraction”- The Science of Attracting More of What You Want and Less of What You Don’t.
In 2008, Siva co-founded The LOA Centre Malaysia. Since 2012, Siva has been the Managing Director.
The LOA Centre Malaysia is a leading provider of “soft-skills” training with focus on Attitude, Leadership Development and Performance Excellence for individuals and groups. The LOA Centre Malaysia also offers a wide range of Corporate Programs in the area of Sales Excellence, Team Performance and Executive Coaching.
On top of Siva’s numerous successes as a trainer and performance coach, his greatest pride comes from him “living the message” of LOA which he also teaches and applies within his family. Since 2008 Siva has been using simple tools and techniques to assist his three (3) children achieve much success in school, within the family, socially and in the community.
The tremendous successes Siva has achieved with his family and friends caught the attention of Michael Losier who has since interviewed Siva’s twin daughters (2010 & 2011), Kavena and Kavitha (currently 19 years old) twice and third video (2015) with their elder son Kreshna on their knowledge of and successes with Law of Attraction. The kids are continuing their remarkable achievement by being the top students in their University course. Kreshna was awarded the top class award in his field by Manipal International University. Due to the remarkable results, he and his family has embarked in a journey to publish a book that would help other families to be super charged.
Upon attending Isha’s Inner Engineering Program in Coimbatore in 2017, there was a sudden surge of creativity. This led to the conceptualization of RESET App. This app was developed with the collaboration with REC Studios, which is the IT partner of The LOA Centre with the key focus of creating positive mindset hence leading to Happiness. To date, there are 10,000 downloads and counting. Now, he is creating a community called Zappers, who are equipped to teach others this simple principle of using this tool and run Happiness Circle. He has set an audacious goal in reaching out to 10 million lives by the year 2028. He is also the founding president of the Minda Club which is NGO that oversees the activities making this goal possible.
Siva continues to conduct many training seminars and has shared the stage with many illustrious global leaders from the insurance and financial planning industry and trained many in the manufacturing industry. He has also been interviewed on radio and television besides featuring in couple of major newspapers. Siva currently dedicates the majority of his work time performance coaching with individual and group clients to achieving spectacular results in sales and team performance through a specially designed Performance Coaching Program. He believes in “Helping you be Happy, so that you become Great”.
